Good afternoon. My daughter's had an accident and now she has to use a wheelchair. I've been told that there's aid available for adapting homes and removing architectural barriers.
What's a disability recognition certificate?
It's a legal recognition of the extent of a person's physical, mental or sensory disability. Evaluations are carried out by our assessment and guidance team.
What are the advantages of having a certificate?
People who can accredit the extent of their disability are entitled to receive different benefits from the Catalan Ministry for Social Welfare and Family (Departament de Benestar Social i Família).
Could you explain how that works, please?
Following the evaluation, the assessment and guidance team will give you information and advice regarding everything necessary for your daughter. For example, she could be given a certificate to show that she's physically capable of working. She'll also be entitled to a disabled parking permit, to tax benefits and to apply for adapted housing or aid for adapting her own home.
What documentation do we need to provide?
A standard application form, an identity document and, if your daughter's under 16, a family book. We'll also need to see medical reports and your daughter's residency permit.
OK. Thanks very much for the information.
You're welcome.
