WOMEN'S HEALTH

LA SALUT DE LA DONA

Primary healthcare centres (CAPs) offer a gynaecology service (servei de ginecologia) and a family planning (planificació familiar) service.

if you think you might be pregnant, you should ask to see a gynaecologist at your CAP. With the help of nurses and midwives (llevadores), your gynaecologist will monitor your pregnancy and carry out all the necessary examinations until your child is born. You will be given a document called a pregnancy record (carnet d'embarassada) when you first see the gynaecologist, and you should take it to all your other appointments.

A midwife will tell you about prenatal classes (classes de preparació al part). These classes are very useful, as they provide a lot of information about pregnancy, childbirth and looking after newborn children. The classes are given in your CAP and are free of charge.

After giving birth, you will need to continue to see the specialist to undergo the appropriate gynaecological examinations.
