An agreement on the number of work permits to be issued to foreign workers to meet the needs of Spanish companies. The number in question is established by the government each year. The foreign workers who receive such permits are selected by the embassies or consulates in their countries of origin.
Also called an inquilí or a llogater in Catalan. A person who pays a monthly sum of money in exchange for the use of a home.
Refuge granted to people who are persecuted because of their race, religion, nationality, social group or political opinions, and who are outside their own country. Under no circumstances may a person be sent to the territory of a country where their life or freedom would be at risk.
All foreigners in Spain are guaranteed free legal aid if they are unable to afford to pay for such services. The aid in question consists of free legal advice and guidance, free defence and representation, assistance if detained or arrested by the police, exemption from the deposits required to lodge appeals, etc.
Public healthcare is free in Catalonia, and is provided by a network of Centres d'Atenció Primària (CAP) / Primary healthcare centres and hospitals. To access such healthcare, you must have a Targeta Sanitària Individual (TSI) / Personal health card. You can obtain a TSI from a CAP, regardless of your administrative status, provided that you are Empadronats / Included on a population register.
A permit issued to people who are Spanish residents but are not authorised to work. In such cases, an employer may request an administrative work permit for the person they wish to employ, for which purpose they must submit the corresponding employment contract. If you want to work for yourself, you must submit a business plan and all the necessary licences.
Authorisation to legally stay in Spain. Foreigners are considered to be legally present in Spain when they have a valid residency permit at all times during their stay in the country. Residency permits may be temporary or long-term.
