I'd like my family to join me here in Spain. What documentation do I need?

català

Persona estrangera:
Hola, bon dia.
Persona estrangera:
No he demanat la renovació.
Oficina d'Estrangers:

Persona estrangera:
Gràcies. Ha estat molt amable.

Foreigner:

Good morning. I'd like to know what I have to do in order for my family to be able to join me here in Spain, please.

Immigration bureau:

Good morning. You need to have a 1-year residency permit and to ask for it to be renewed for at least another year.

Foreigner:
I haven't applied for it to be renewed.
Immigration bureau:

You won't be able to reunite your family unless you have your permit renewed. However, you can apply for reunification while the renewal procedures are taking place. Approval of your request for reunification will depend on your permit being renewed (or on there being 3 months of administrative silence, which is considered to constitute a positive decision).

Foreigner:

What else do I need?

Immigration bureau:

You'll also need to provide:

  • The original versions and a copy of documentation accrediting your family ties.

  • The original and a copy of your current passport.

  • A copy of the current passport of each person you want to join you here in Spain.

  • Proof that you have sufficient economic resources to satisfy your family's needs.

  • The original and a copy of your renewed residency permit or work and residency permit. Alternatively, if your permit is in the process of being renewed, you'll need to provide both your first permit and the slip that shows you have applied for it to be renewed.

  • A document that shows that you have suitable housing.

Foreigner:

Can I use my rental contract to prove my home's suitability?

Immigration bureau:

No. You'll need to request a municipal housing report. Alternatively, if the city council fails to issue your report within 15 days of you requesting it, you can submit a notarial deed instead.

Foreigner:

Thanks. You've been very helpful.
