Good afternoon.
I've asked you to come in to talk about your daughter. She's failed the fourth year of compulsory secondary education, despite having repeated it. We need to discuss what would be the best option for her.
The thing is that she doesn’t like studying and she doesn’t know what she wants to do yet.
If she doesn’t want to carry on studying, she could sign up for a social guarantee programme. She’ll receive basic training that will help her to find a job. Later on, if she wants, she’ll be able to carry on studying through vocational training.
How long do these programmes last?
They last for 1 academic year and involve between 20 and 25 hours a week, depending on the training you choose.
What training is available?
There's a wide range, from local authority programmes and plans for making the transition to employment, to training programmes for learning methods used in agriculture, livestock farming and fishing, cooking, etc.
Can these studies be taken here, in the same secondary school?
Thanks for the information. We’ll talk about it at home and let you know what we decide.
